Throughout the year, there have been numerous reports of smartphones exploding or catching fire. Whether it’s a vivo phone catching fire in transit or the OnePlus Nord 2 exploding in someone’s jeans pocket.

On November 27, a POCO M3 caught fire and detonated in India, in a similar event. Mahesh (@Mahesh08716488), the claimed victim’s brother, tweeted about the incident. The user makes no mention of the incident or what caused the phone to catch fire in the now-deleted tweet. POCO acknowledged the problem and responded to the tweet, stating that customer safety is extremely important to them and that they treat such issues seriously.

Mahesh posted a photo of a charred POCO M3 that reveals the phone has been severely damaged, with the middle and bottom parts of the phone’s back entirely incinerated. There has been no report of anyone being hurt or injured as a result of this occurrence.

“At POCO India, customer safety is of utmost importance, and we take such matters seriously,” POCO told 91mobiles in response to their inquiry about the event. Our team is now examining this situation to find the cause and ensure that it is rectified as soon as possible. All of our products go through a series of rigorous quality checks to ensure that the device’s quality is never compromised.”

This isn’t the first time a POCO phone has caught fire in India this year; a similar incident using a POCO X3 occurred in September. These recurring events reflect a negative picture of the China-based brand, casting doubt on the quality and safety testing standards of the devices delivered to the subcontinent.
