Official: Samsung Galaxy A Series Will Get Four Android Updates

Samsung has extended the support period for its devices. The company made the official announcement at a recent event dedicated to the launch of the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series. As part of the new policy, flagship devices will receive up to four generations of Android with the One UI shell, as well as security patches for Samsung Galaxy A series for a period of five years.

The extended support was expected to be available for the following devices:

Galaxy S: Galaxy S22/S22 Plus/S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra/S21 FE and later Galaxy S models;
Galaxy-Z: Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and later Galaxy Z models;
Galaxy tablets: Galaxy Tab S8/S8+/S8 Ultra and future models of the Galaxy Tab S family.
Starting with the Galaxy Watch 4 the smartwatches will also get 4 more years of One UI Watch and Wear OS updates.

The new standard expands on Samsung’s previous pledge to provide up to three generations of upgrades. To begin, the upgrades are available on the most recent Galaxy S-series, Z-series, and A-series smartphones and tablets.
Today, a press release was published on the official Samsung website, announcing that the company is setting new standards by providing four generations of OS updates for the safe use of Galaxy devices. And it turned out to be quite intriguing. According to the company, “Today, extended support is extended to the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Z; and Galaxy A series of smartphones, as well as tablets. In the future, the company intends to expand the initiative to other lines. In the list of devices that are eligible for four major updates; the company also mentioned the Galaxy A line, indicating “a number of selected Galaxy A devices”.

This means that future Samsung Galaxy A devices will also support 4+1, which translates to four major Android updates and an additional year of security patches. It is unlikely that all future Galaxy A models will benefit from such a feature. It is most likely that only the top models of the line will be affected.

“We are committed to providing people with a Galaxy with an innovative and sustainable mobile experience. Galaxy users are increasingly choosing to use their devices for longer. Sometimes because they just love that specific model, sometimes because they want to contribute to a more sustainable world. With four generations of One UI upgrades, we make that possible, while at the same time you continue to enjoy the latest mobile innovations,” Gerben van Walt Meijer, Marketing Manager Mobile at Samsung Netherlands, explains.
