Facebook Launches Reels, Its Short Video Feature, In Over 150 Countries

Reels, Facebook’s short video features, are now available in more than 150 countries. Its parent company, Meta, made the announcement, claiming that the feature was its fastest content format.

According to a Reuters article, due to its recent tremendous development, the popular social media site is pushing Reels as the next big thing. According to a recent earnings report, the popular social networking site has lost a third of its market value. For those who are unaware, Meta first published Reels on Instagram in 2020, and then on Facebook the following year. The new content format was created to compete with TikTok, a prominent short video sharing site owned by China’s ByteDance.

“Reels is already our fastest growing content format by far, and today we’re making it available to everyone on Facebook globally,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, in a Facebook post. Surprisingly, with the Reels feature, the business also unveiled new opportunities for content creators to generate money. It is expanding its program to offer bonuses to creators in new countries, and it is also experimenting with overlay ads such as banners and stickers allowing creators to earn ad money.

This function is also set to broadcast full-screen advertisements in between Reels in the near future. Meta also mentioned that it will release upgrades that will let users to create and view Facebook Reels in new locations. This applies to locations such as Stories, the Watch tab, and even the top of news feeds. Suggestions for Reels will also appear in some regions’ feeds.
