While the struggle in Ukraine continues in the face of Russia’s inevitable invasion, sanctions against Putin’s government persist as well. The United States and the European Union imposed a slew of economic penalties. Furthermore, several technological businesses have complied with the fines. Apple, for instance, has stopped selling phones in the country. Another smartphone behemoth has announced that it will cease operations in Russia. Samsung has informed the country that it will no longer be shipping smartphones or chipsets.

The South Korean company is likewise ceasing operations in the country. According to Bloomberg, the corporation is keeping a close eye on the complicated situation. Exports to Russi are no longer being made by the company. All Samsung products, from processors to cellphones and consumer electronics, are covered by the “ban.” That means that, in the not-too-distant future, Russian customers will be unable to purchase any Samsung device, including smartphones, PCs, smart TVs, and other electronics.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted. Our priority is to ensure the safety of all our employees and their families”.
The company is donating $6 million, including $1 million in consumer electronics products, to humanitarian efforts in the region.
Last Friday, tensions reached an all-time high. A nuclear power station in the country’s southeast has been assaulted by Russian soldiers. Concerns concerning the war have been voiced as a result. After all, it could easily set off a cataclysm far more devastating than Chernobyl. As a result, the EU, US, and UK have added to the list of sanctions aimed at isolating the country. In the financial, economic, and technological fields, Russia is nearly alone. Only the Chinese government has so far refused to abide by the sanctions imposed on the country.
Ukraine’s vice prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, wrote a letter to Samsung vice chairman Han Jong-hee ahead of the company’s announcement. The lawmaker also sends notes to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Starlink CEO Elon Musk, as you may recall. Both firms have lent their support to Ukraine, with the latter donating part of its satellites to keep the internet running in the country. Returning to the point, the vice prime minister requested Samsung to halt the provision of services and products to Russia for the time being.
“We believe that such actions will motivate the youth and active population of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression”. “We need your support! In 2022, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to the tanks, multiple rocket launchers, and missiles targeting residential neighborhoods, kindergartens, and hospitals. Stay with Ukraine and save millions of innocent lives!”
For the time being, there is no indication of when Samsung and other corporations will resume business with Russia. There is no indication that the situation will improve. It’s worth recalling that Google only pledged its assistance and ended its ad service in Russia just one day ago. PayPal, one of the largest digital wallets in the world, has stopped accepting Russian users.
