Elon Musk: ‘I Will Resign as CEO’ of Twitter

Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, has declared his intention to step down as the company’s chief executive. The choice was made in response to a survey in which 57% of participants said they wanted Musk to leave his position as CEO of the social media site.

Elon Musk announces resignation as Twitter CEO following poll

Following a poll in which 57% of participants voted for him to stand down as CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk has said that he will do so. Musk wrote in a tweet that he will step down “as soon as I find someone crazy enough to take the position” and concentrate on leading the software and server teams instead.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has overseen a number of policy changes and scandals throughout his tenure. Shortly after assuming control of the social media site in October, Musk let go of around half of Twitter’s workers and tried to introduce a for-pay verification tool, which was ultimately shelved. Last week, the feature was reintroduced.

In addition, civil rights organizations have criticized Musk’s method of content management, with some claiming that he is taking steps to encourage hate speech and false information on the site.

The European Union and the United Nations denounced Elon Musk on Friday for Twitter’s decision to suspend some journalists who cover the social media business. While the EU threatened Twitter with sanctions, the UN declared that media freedom was “not a toy.”

Who will succeed Musk as CEO of Twitter is still unknown. The multibillionaire CEO has a history of making snap judgments that he later regrets, so it’s possible that he’ll decide to stand down after all. Twitter users will be keeping an eye on how the social media site develops under the new leadership in the interim.
