Why Is Facebook’s Dark Mode Gone? Android Users Confused As Feature Disappears!

Some Facebook users are reporting that dark mode has suddenly disappeared, but why? Let’s explore what’s going on.

Facebook often introduces new and exciting features to keep its users happy.

But something you don’t expect to see is popular features disappearing from the app.

That’s exactly what’s happened this week, as some Facebook users have noticed that they can no longer access dark mode.

Let’s explore the complaints and see if there’s a way to fix it.

Facebook users notice dark mode is gone
Thousands of Facebook users have been taking to Twitter over the past 24 hours to report that they can no longer use dark mode on their app.

Dark mode is a popular feature that was introduced in October 2020 that allows users to make their display black, instead of the normal white background.

The issue only seems to be occurring for Android users, and the feature seems to have disappeared completely from the settings.

One person tweeted: “I opened Facebook on my phone and the dark mode was turned off and I was blinded. I checked the settings to turn it back on and they were gone.. I feel so hurt right now @Facebook , bring dark mode back!”

“Where did my Facebook dark mode go? I opened the app and now I’m blind,” wrote another.

A third person said: “Wtf @facebook dark mode just disappeared for me and it’s not even in the app settings anymore.”

So, what has happened to dark mode?

Facebook said it’s a “technical issue”
A spokesperson for Facebook told Tom’s Guide that they were aware of the issues that started on May 25th and instantly began working on a fix.

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing certain features on Facebook’s Android app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible,” they said.

On May 27th, Facebook revealed that they have now “restored the service” which means that dark mode should have returned for all users.

Facebook said: “We have restored service for those who experienced a technical issue that caused some people to have trouble accessing certain features on Facebook’s Android app.”

They did not give an exact reason for the problems, but it only seemed to be happening to Android users, which suggests it was a glitch on Facebook’s part.

This isn’t the first time users have reported that dark mode has disappeared, as people received similar issues at the start of May.

How to fix your Facebook app
Dark mode should have returned, but if you are still receiving issues, here are some things that could fix your app.

Force quit the app.
First, try completely shutting down your app. On an iPhone, do this by swiping up on your homepage.

Log out of the app.
Some users have reported that logging out of the app and then logging back in again has fixed their Facebook.

Turn your phone off.
It’s the oldest trick in the book, and sometimes all you’ve got to do is turn your phone off and on again.

Delete your app.
You could also try deleting your app and then re-downloading it again from the App Store.

Clear your cache.
Another way to fix your app is to clear its cache. You can do this by heading to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Media and Contacts > Browser > Clear.
