Xiaomi To Launch MIUI With virtual RAM

Xiaomi intends to launch new features in the software update MIUI 12.5, including a virtual RAM. The novelty was noted by Kacper Skrzypek, a Polish who calls himself “unofficial MIUI translator”, in a code. The interface is used on Mi smartphones, Redmi and POCO of the brand.

In your account at Twitter, Skrzypek stated that this extension of RAM will arrive soon. “It hasn’t been implemented yet, so I still don’t know how much space and what devices are going to support it. Probably the new ones, ”he said, who also tests Xiaomi devices.

Kacper Skrzypek, soon after, managed to activate a memory extension menu on his own phone. “It is not officially compatible with any Mi phone released yet (requires two components to work). 1GB was defined by me for testing ”, he added.

This type of virtual RAM is already found in Vivo X60 smartphones and OnePlus 9 Pro. The feature is also similar to SWAP, which already exists in the Linux kernel, a program that controls the device’s hardware. It uses the HD as part of the device’s RAM memory. But, it is slower than normal RAM.

This slowness happens because the RAM memory it is in fact built to have quick and random access to what is stored on the devices. So much so that RAM stands for ‘random access memory’, English for ‘random access memory’. On the other hand, hard drives are slower, but with massive storage.

Thus, the memory takes up internal space, making a partition. The virtual RAM feature is interesting for basic and intermediate phones. It can help, for example, to run more applications simultaneously.

Usually, according to the website My Smart Price, users who have between 8GB and 12GB of RAM get an additional up to 3GB of virtual RAM, for when the app demands more storage than the phone offers. Devices with only 3GB or 4GB of RAM can support up to 1GB of additional virtual RAM.
